How Do I Keep My Brain Smart?

Until just a few years ago we doctors believed that the brain stopped making new neural connections ? meaning that your memory began to get irreversibly worse ? when the body stopped developing usually in your early 20s. And we knew that like any other body part neurons weaken as we age. Loss of brain function due to neural breakdown was assumed to be a normal unavoidable part of aging.

‘No such thing as safe cocaine use’

Researchers warned that there is no 'safe' amount of cocaine to use, after a study found that up to 3 per cent of all sudden deaths are linked to the drug.

Taking even small amounts of cocaine at weekends can increase the risk of suddenly dying from heart problems.

The study, published in the European Heart Journal, analysed a series of post-mortem reports in south-west Spain, where toxicology tests are routinely carried out after any violent or unexpected deaths.

Scientists have discovered that everyday emotional stress is a trigger for the growth of tumours

They discovered that any sort of trauma, emotional or physical, can act as a "pathway" between cancerous mutations bringing them together in a potentially deadly mix.

Obesity Rates Hit Plateau in U.S., Data Suggest

Americans, at least as a group, may have reached their peak of obesity, according to data the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released Wednesday.

The numbers indicate that obesity rates have remained constant for at least five years among men and for closer to 10 years among women and children — long enough for experts to say the percentage of very overweight people has leveled off.
